• Paint is first applied to the surface in any number of ways, then a pointed tool is used to remove lines of paint

These scratched in lines might reveal a lighter or darker shade that lies below the wet paint that is being removed, and the difference in value can be used to add texture and/or create shading or highlighting that indicates form. These scratched in lines might be hatched, swirled, and/or erratic, and any combination of these forms of scratching can be used to create varied textures and rhythms.
